The treasury holds your group’s money story, so trust matters more than features. Here’s exactly how Pass the Basket treats anonymity, your data, and your independence — no fine print.
No. Pass the Basket records amounts, dates, and categories — never the name of who put what in the basket. There is no field for a contributor’s name anywhere in the app. Anonymity is the default, not a setting you have to find.
It can’t — we don’t track individual giving at all. The 7th Tradition is recorded as a single collection per meeting, the way the basket is actually passed. Nothing ties a dollar amount to a person.
Your email identifies your account (the treasurer or a helper), so we can send the sign-in link and the monthly report. It is never shown publicly, never shared, and never connected to any contribution. Members of your group are identified to each other by email only — never by name.
Only people you’ve added to your group. Each group’s ledger is walled off from every other group, and a signed-in member can only ever reach the group(s) they belong to. We don’t sell data or run ads — there’s nothing to sell.
Any time. Export the full ledger to CSV from inside the app with one click — it’s your record to keep. No lock-in, no hostage-taking, ever.
Export your CSV first, then ask us to delete the group entirely and we will. Nothing expires and nothing gets locked — there’s no subscription to lapse — but we’d rather you leave with a clean copy of your records than have them sit somewhere you forgot.
Everything is served over HTTPS and stored with a managed database provider (Supabase). We keep only what the treasury needs — the ledger, your meeting schedule, and the email addresses of your group’s members.
Never. Pass the Basket is a record-keeping tool, not a payment processor. Your treasurer holds and moves the money exactly as they always have; the app just keeps the books and prints the report.
No. An independent tool for groups. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any recovery fellowship or its service bodies, including Alcoholics Anonymous World Services and Narcotics Anonymous World Services.
Yes. The treasury engine is identical for every fellowship; only the vocabulary, categories, and suggested service split differ. Al-Anon, Recovery Dharma, Celebrate Recovery, and SMART Recovery are built in, and others are welcome — the categories are yours to edit.
Nothing. Pass the Basket is free for every group — no trial, no card, no plan, and no feature held back. Running costs are covered by voluntary donations from individuals who find it useful.
No catch. It costs us hosting and a domain, and that’s covered by people who chip in. We don’t sell data, run ads, or touch your group’s money — there’s nothing to sell and nothing to skim. If donations ever stopped covering it we’d say so plainly rather than quietly put your ledger behind a wall.
Please don’t. That money belongs to your group and its service structure. If someone wants to help with our hosting they can do it personally — and no group is treated any differently either way.
No passwords. Enter your group email and we send a one-tap sign-in link. It works on the treasurer’s laptop and the basket-passer’s phone alike.
Yes. Add co-treasurers, admins, or read-only viewers by email, and hand off the treasurer role in one tap when your group rotates service positions — no data migration, no lost history.
Free, permanently. No card, and nothing to cancel.
